SYLVIE MarchandFounder of Aptitude Ergo, Clinical Director, Head of Mental Health Practice, Speaker and Co-Owner

As a graduate from the University of Montreal in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in occupational therapy, I started my psychiatry practice internally, treating severe mental health conditions and addiction.

A passionate entrepreneur, I co-founded Aptitude Ergo in 2016. Our mission is to offer innovative, multidisciplinary prevention and rehabilitation services for adults and children. We offer ergonomics, personal fitness training, occupational therapy in physical and mental health and child development services. Our goal is to reduce incapacity and disability at work, as well as optimize children’s health in their environment, the cornerstone of our society.

We are training a group of over one hundred professionals working under one roof, at Carrefour Santé 440 in Laval (doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, massage therapists, osteopaths, GPR, kinesiologists, psychologists, acupuncturists, etc.).

As clinical director and practice leader in mental health, my clientele presents me with various challenges (persistent pain, MSD, ASD, schizophrenia, psychotic state, personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder PTSD, TAG, TPA, disorder coping, mood disorder, major depression, substance abuse, ADHD, cognitive difficulties, etc.). The clinical interventions provided are made up of evidence-based practice models and approaches. We also collaborate on diverse health research.

I am a lecturer in occupational health among other topics at the University of Montreal, at McGill and with insurers and employers. We also offer personalized training services for groups of workers, managers and executives (e.g. how to facilitate the reintegration of a worker with a mental health condition for managers, training in office ergonomics, training of office ergonomics instructors, etc.).

Our interventions focus on evaluating functional capacities, adaptation, activation, empowerment, professional and social integration through collaborative actions involving the extended team: worker or child, doctor, family, psychologist, managers, executives, unions, insurers, etc.

Practicing in a clinical setting as much as at work or at home, we more specifically advocate: activation of cognitive and social skills and abilities, improvement and control of routine life and lifestyle habits, emotional and stress management, persistent pain management, support related to in vivo desensitization, improvement of an addiction in collaboration with the health network or private clinic.

My preferred approaches are: CBT, CCT, ACT, rehabilitation, desensitization, motivational and solution-oriented counselling.
